At Belmont UMC, we believe faith calls us beyond the walls of the church and into the work of justice, compassion, and community transformation. This summer, we invite you to be part of our Summer of Justice initiative: a season of outreach, advocacy, learning, and hands-on service opportunities designed to help us live out Christ’s call to love our neighbors in meaningful ways.
Below are opportunities for all ages and interests to get involved. Whether you can give one afternoon or an entire season, your presence and participation matter. Together, we can build a more just, compassionate, and hopeful community — one act of love at a time.

Volunteers needed to help stock the Burro Closet – Beginning in July
The 2026–2027 school year marks the third year that Belmont’s United4Hope team has maintained the Burro Closet at Hillsboro High School. A small group of Belmont volunteers currently maintains the Burro Closet, but more volunteers are needed. Learn more
Malawi update and 2027 Mission Team information meeting – July 23
Belmont UMC’s Outreach Committee invites anyone who is interested to join us for an update on our church’s partnership with the United Methodist Church in Malawi and to learn about plans for a Belmont UMC mission team to Malawi in June or July 2027. Learn more
Ebenezer Food Drive – July and August
Throughout July and August, Belmont UMC will be collecting nonperishable food items to help provide meals for families and children in the Ebenezer community. Learn more
Childcare volunteers needed – July 7 and August 11
Belmont UMC’s English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers will be leading three summer sessions for adult learners at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Classes will be held on June 9, July 7, and August 11, beginning at 6:30pm. Childcare volunteers are needed to care for the children of adult students during the classes. Learn more

HERO – 1st Monday of every month
The Homeless Education Resource Office (HERO) for Families in Transition identifies and supports students within Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) who are experiencing homelessness. Each month, on the first Monday, Belmonters have the opportunity to serve at the HERO site in North Nashville from 11:00am-1:00pm. Learn more
Tell Congress to Support the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act
The adoption of H.R. 40/S. 40, known as the Development of a Commission to Study and Develop Reparations Proposals for African Americans Act, would establish a federal commission to study the legacy of slavery, Jim Crow segregation, redlining, and other forms of systemic racial discrimination against African Americans. Support legislation to lift the U.S. embargo on Cuba and prevent U.S. military action. Learn more
