Job Title: Childcare Coordinator

Type:  Part time, hourly, non-exempt

Hours: Approximately 5 hours weekly on Sunday mornings, with occasional extra hours for evening events, or other special events based on various church activities.

Rate: $18-25/hr commensurate with experience; 5 hours guaranteed per Sunday shift

Reports to: Pastor of Children and Discipleship

This position supports this mission by providing a safe and welcoming environment for children in our care including coordinating care, ensuring adherence to all Belmont UMC childcare policies and best practices, maintaining positive parent relations, and effectively communicating with staff, volunteers, and families.

Responsibilities: 

Scheduling, Training, and Supervision (10%)

  • Coordinate schedules and supervise the nursery and childcare staff, including Golden Triangle Fellowship childcare staff and volunteers. Approve timecards in a timely manner.
  • Work in conjunction with the Pastor of Children’s Ministry to train the staff in policies and procedures, including Belmont UMC’s Safe Sanctuary policy.
  • Receive and respond to childcare reservations from members and staff to coordinate childcare as needed. Work with the Communications and Facility Use Coordinator to reserve space.
  • Communicate regularly with childcare and nursery staff and volunteers to address concerns, answer questions, and inform of events related to the ministry. Communicate concerns to the Pastor of Children’s Ministry, including space sharing concerns.
  • Supervise opening and closing the nursery and childcare area including turning on/off lights, setting up the room, cleaning toys, wiping tables, and sweeping the floor.
  • Attend and participate in the Children’s Ministry Team meetings as a representative for childcare staff.
  • Attend any training or further education as offered or deemed necessary.

Childcare (90%)

  • Care for all children in the assigned room by providing physical and emotional care, and safety. Engage with the children in interactive play and learning activities.
  • Adhere to childcare policies, including but not limited to sign in/out procedures, attendance tracking, safe sanctuary, diapering, feeding, toileting and hand washing.
  • Provide families with a kind, friendly, loving, compassionate and safe environment for their children, engaging with families as they drop off and pick up their children.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Trained in best CDC practices for childcare during Covid and able to train other childcare staff (or willing to be trained)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • CPR Certified or will obtain certification
  • At least 1 year of previous experience preferred
  • Punctual and dependable

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be in classroom and playground environments. The position is active and the employee is required to talk, hear, stand, walk, bend down, and sit. The employee must be able to lift and hold children or items up to 45 pounds. The employee may be required to wear a mask.
  • The employee will need an internet and phone connection for email and phone communication.

Hours: 4 hours per week on Sunday mornings. Occasional extra hours for special church events may be required.

Rate: $15.60 per hour; 4 hours guaranteed per on-site shift
