Job Title: Assistant to the Director of Children’s Ministry
Type: Part time, non-exempt, temporary position
Hours: 15 hours a week, including Sunday morning and Wednesday evening
Pay Rate: $20-22/hr.
Reports to: Director of Children’s Ministries, Music and Families

This position assists the Director of Children’s Ministries, Music and Families for approximately 15 hours per week, scheduled as needed in coordination with the Director of Children’s Ministries, Music and Families. The most necessary weekly hours are Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Some responsibilities may be seasonal; most responsibilities occur weekly.
Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers for children’s Sunday School and Wednesday Children’s Choirs
- Fill in for teachers in children’s Sunday School, Wednesday Children’s Choirs, and Nursery as needed
- Support children’s participation in worship and maintain children’s worship resources
- Assist with planning and executing Children’s Ministry events, retreats, trips, and service projects
- Assist families with wayfinding and answer questions for new families or visitors
- Design, update, and send out the Children’s Ministry Newsletter
- Assume leadership and support of teachers and classes if Director is out on Sundays or Wednesdays
- Ensure compliance with Belmont UMC’s Safe Sanctuary policy
- Confirm that classrooms are set up for Sunday School and Wednesday children’s choir
- Purchase and maintain Children’s Ministry supplies, snacks, and musical/educational resources
- Ensure that toys and instruments are in working conditioning, repairing as needed
- Coordinate with custodial staff to ensure room cleanliness
- Coordinate children’s choir robe assignments and robe washing
- Enter work order requests for any classroom / facility maintenance needs
- Maintain sign in forms for each classroom for Sunday School and Wednesday choir
- Distribute and collect signed permission and registration forms, printing additional copies as needed
- Maintain and enter Children’s Ministry records, rosters, and family profiles in the computer system
- Support teachers by copying curriculum materials, printing teacher name tags, setting up technology/videos in classrooms, etc.
- Ensure teachers receive Safe Sanctuary information prior to school year start and collect signed acknowledgement forms from teachers for program record keeping
- Other tasks as needed
Qualifications:
- Associates degree or 3-4 years of equivalent work experience
- 1-2 years of experience working with children and families in a church or classroom environment
- Knowledge of classroom technology
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with both children and adults
- Organizational skills
- Training in Safe Sanctuaries is a plus
- Must pass a background check and adhere to Safe Sanctuary policy
- CPR training for children and infants
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be in a classroom environment. The person in this position needs to move about inside the room to work with small children, access supply closets, lift small musical instruments or other items weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this position frequently communicates with children and families. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 25% of the time.
