The HERO program helps homeless families with children; here are opportunities to help the HERO program
The Homeless Education Resource Office (HERO) for Families in Transition identifies and supports students within Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) who are experiencing homelessness.
Belmont UMC volunteers teamed with MNPS on four nights last fall in a pilot program to provide services to 10 families including 30 children. These services included helping with employment, housing, and health care, as well as providing new coats and shoes, hygiene items, and non-perishable food. Volunteers enjoyed connecting with the families and each other and found the experience to be rewarding.
Each month, on the first Monday, Belmonters have the opportunity to serve at the HERO site in North Nashville from 11:00am-1:00pm. Tasks include sorting donations, taking monthly inventory, tidying the space, and putting away new donations. Click here to sign up.
