We hope you’ll join us this Sunday, October 11, as we welcome Dr. Taure Brown to Belmont UMC!
Dr. Brown is a community organizer, sociologist and educator whose work is rooted in the pursuit of social justice and community empowerment. For more than a decade, he has organized around issues of racial, economic, and social justice, helping lead grassroots organizations, civic engagement initiatives, political education programs, and community events. His organizing has ranged from co-founding community organizations and mobilizing around racial justice to building partnerships that use arts, education, and public dialogue as tools for social change. Dr. Brown currently serves as Director of the James Lawson Institute at Vanderbilt University, where he brings together his experiences as an organizer, scholar, and educator. His work focuses on developing the knowledge, relationships, and collective power necessary to challenge injustice and build more just communities (from https://divinity.vanderbilt.edu/person/taure-brown/).
Dr. Brown served as this year’s keynote speaker at the Nashville Organized for Action and Hope’s (NOAH) annual dinner and recently led a wonderful Wednesday Night At Belmont program about organizing in communities of faith..
