What does it really mean to follow Jesus? Beginning Sunday, August 2, join us for a nine-week fall sermon series exploring the values at the heart of Jesus’ teachings. Together we’ll discover how seeking God, embracing our humanity, pursuing justice, choosing peace, loving generously, forgiving freely, practicing Sabbath, and serving others shape a life of faithful discipleship. Whether you’re new to the faith or have been walking with Christ for years, this series offers practical wisdom for living out the way of Jesus every day.
August 2 – Seek: Jesus tells us that, before anything else, we should seek the right things – God’s Kin-dom values and righteousness. The Christian life, or life of faith, is never stationary or stagnant. God’s promises are new every morning, God is always perfecting us, and it is never too early or too late. (Genesis 32:22-31; Matthew 5:25-33)
August 9 – Mistakes: Peter walks on water – until he doesn’t. You are human. (Matthew 14:22–33)
August 16 – Law: Break some rules. Jesus tells us that rigid external rules rarely help us live a righteous or ethical life. (Matthew 15:1-11, 15-19)
August 23 – Justice: Do justice. God sees injustice through many perspectives: you might be Miriam, Pharaoh’s daughter, or Moses, but we can all do something. (Exodus 1:8-2:10; 3:1-15; Matthew 23:23)
August 30 – Peace: Peacefully overcome evil. Paul gives us one of his “top ten” lists for following Jesus: Let love be genuine, outdo one another in showing honor, contribute to the saints, bless those who curse you, weep with those who weep, rejoice with those who rejoice, live at peace with others whenever possible, never seek revenge, and do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:9-21)
September 6 – Love: Love matters more. (Romans 13:8-10)
September 13 – Forgive: Forgive freely. (Matthew 18:21–22)
September 20 – Rest: Take time for Sabbath. (Psalm 105:1-6, 37-45; Luke 5:16)
September 27 – Serve: Christlikeness is the power of serving others. (Philippians 2:1-13)
