Belmont UMC receives major grant to help preserve our historic sanctuary

With joy and grateful hearts, we are glad to announce that Belmont UMC has received a $162,688 matching grant from the National Fund for Sacred Places (NFSP). The National Fund for Sacred Places is a program of Partners for Sacred Places in collaboration with the National Trust for Historic Preservation designed to support healthy congregations in historic sacred places. Over 300 churches and religious organizations applied for funds in 2025, and 30 grants were awarded. Belmont is honored to be one of those thirty.

Our planned project reflects our commitment to being a welcoming, inclusive presence in our community. By strengthening our historic sanctuary, from reinforcing its foundation and restoring its stained glass to repairing the roof and stonework, we are preserving both the beauty and the integrity of this sacred space. Together, these efforts stabilize the building, honor its historic beauty, and ensure our sanctuary continues to reflect the hospitality and care at the heart of Belmont.

In their press release today, Partners for Sacred Places said: “Each of the congregations welcomed into the National Fund this year represents a unique story of resilience, history, and service,” said Bob Jaeger, President of Partners for Sacred Places. “These sacred places are not only architectural treasures – they are vital centers of congregational life and community anchors offering meals, education, cultural enrichment, and refuge. We are honored to support their preservation and their continued role in public life.”
