What if the Bible is . . .
a collection of scriptures, stories, and styles? (September 7)
about our experiences with God? (September 14)
best understood in community? (September 21)
about compassion, not judgement? (September 28)
about abundant life? (October 5)
something that gives us hope? (October 12)
Sunday mornings, September 7-October 12, Join Pastor Paul Purdue and Hunter Wade in Parker Hall at 9:15am for this class that follows our sermon series and explores ways of engaging with scripture as we ponder these questions together. All are welcome—whether you’ve never been part of a small group or class, or want to bring your whole Sunday school class! Come every week or drop in when you can. Our hope is that by engaging these questions together, we might discover new ways of relating to the Bible that draw us closer to God, one another, and the world.
Throughout history and into our modern moment, the Bible has often been used to discriminate, judge, and divide. When scripture is wielded as a weapon, it can leave us wondering: Is the Bible still Good News? Can we approach it today and truly hear the voice of God – the voice of Love – speaking to us?
On Sundays, September 7-October 12, our sermon series will explore this question through different lenses for engaging our sacred text.
