Your Communion offering on Sunday, February 1, will support the O.N.E. Barnes Scholarship. Founded by Rev. Bill Barnes, this scholarship has been a meaningful part of Belmont United Methodist Church for more than 30 years, providing financial assistance to individuals in the Nashville area pursuing higher education. Thank you, Belmont, for your faithful support of students over the years – we are grateful and look forward to your continued generosity.
Currently, twelve students are receiving scholarships at universities in Tennessee, Illinois, and Oregon, pursuing a wide range of majors. An educational quote from Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson invites us to reflect on hard work and purpose: When you’re trying to figure out what you want to do with your life, the key question is, what am I willing to work for? What motivates me? What am I passionate about? She also emphasizes the importance of education for democracy – helping individuals understand issues, speak out, and discern truth from fiction. May these words inspire and guide students as they pursue their education and future callings.
