Belmont UMC welcomes Emma Bushong to the staff
Our Staff Parish Relations Committee is pleased to announce that Emma Bushong will be working with our youth this summer as our Summer Youth Associate. Emma has served as a youth and also a children’s ministry intern at Belmont UMC for the past two school years. For the past year, Emma has worked full time at the church as a Weekday School teacher and in our youth and children’s ministry. Emma will be accompanying the youth on choir and mission trips as well as working with our youth council and partners in youth ministry as the SPRC begins the search process for a new youth director as Rev. Darren Mayberry Wright is appointed senior pastor of Connection UMC beginning in July. Emma hits the ground running joining the youth choir as they leave for California on June 1.
Our SPRC has created a team to conduct a search for our next youth director. The search team plans to meet with the youth council, youth, youth choir, youth parents, young adults, and others to seek input into this vital area of ministry. We are deeply thankful for Darren’s leadership on our staff, and we trust God will be with us as we search for our next youth leader. Please uphold this process in your prayers. Now if you have not yet met Emma, below is a short bio she wrote to help you get to know her a little better!
If we haven’t met yet, my name is Emma Bushong, and I’ve had the joy of being your youth intern here at BUMC for the past 2 years. I’m so honored and excited to be stepping into the role of Summer Youth Associate these next few months. I graduated from Belmont University in 2021 with a Music Performance degree and a minor in Christian Leadership. Ministry with youth and young people is my greatest passion, and I’ve been so blessed to be a youth intern at 3 different UMCs in different capacities for the past 5 years. I also served for 3 years with Belmont University’s University Ministries, leading small groups and creating leadership curriculum. Over the last year, I’ve had a blast teaching a room of 10 toddlers at our very own Weekday School, and I’m thrilled to be able to start working full time with our youth. While at BUMC, Darren has been an amazing mentor to me and while I’m so sad he’s leaving, I’m so thankful for all he’s taught me and to be able to continue serving our phenomenal youth. I’m looking forward to all that this summer has in store!
