The Advent season – the beginning of a new Christian year – begins Sunday, November 30. On Wednesdays, December 3 and 10, Rev. John Collett will lead two Advent-themed sessions at 6:00pm in room 124.
On December 3, the focus will be on Jesus’ coming as a baby – fully human in every way. An early church teacher wrote, “He became as we are that we might become as he is,” and Hebrews 2:17 reminds us, “He had to become like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest.” This session explores the human side of Jesus, often described as “Christ from below.”
On December 10, the attention turns to Jesus as the embodiment of God. John 1:14 proclaims, “The Word became flesh and lived among us,” and Colossians 1:19 states, “For in him the fullness of God was pleased to dwell.” This session highlights the divine side of Jesus, or “Christ from above.”
Together, these two perspectives remind us that Jesus is both fully human and fully divine. Advent invites us to prepare our hearts to receive Christ in the fullness of who he is—Son of Man and Son of God.
