Dr. Susanna Sutherland, PhD, MS, MEd, an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, will be here on Wednesday, March 26, at 6:00 PM to speak about healthy ways of coping with depression.
Susanna will explore evidence-based strategies for managing depression and improving emotional well-being, including the role of behavioral activation, cognitive reframing, mindfulness, and social support in coping with depressive symptoms.

About Dr. Sutherland
Dr. Sutherland is a clinical research psychologist at The Osher Center for Integrative Health. She earned her PhD in Psychological Science from Vanderbilt University, where she received extensive clinical training in cognitive behavioral therapies for mood disorders and conducted research on the transmission of psychopathology from parents to offspring.
She completed her doctoral internship at The Osher Center, focusing on integrative intervention and the study of female pain disorders, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Women’s Mental Health at Atrius Health in Boston, Massachusetts, where she specialized in perinatal psychology and the intersection of behavioral health and women’s healthcare.
Dr. Sutherland’s current research focuses on enhancing the implementation of cognitive-behavioral interventions for women’s health needs, with the goal of improving feasibility and accessibility. She has a personal passion and professional expertise in maternal psychological well-being and health outcomes.
