The Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) needs your ideas on what we most want from our program staff in assisting the ministries of the congregation. The SPRC has begun this study in light of the June retirement of Jim Strickland, Director of Program Ministries, and the current vacancy in the position of Director of Children's Ministries.

STAFF STUDY QUESTIONS

BUMC's program ministry model is currently comprised of a Ministry Council and structured around the following four primary task areas: Reaching/Receiving; Nurturing/Caring; Sending/Serving; and Enabling/Resourcing. Each primary task area is led by a lay facilitator and a member of the church staff (i.e. Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, Director of Program Ministries, or Business Administrator.) Recent congregational surveys indicate that this ministry model is effective to enable BUMC to reach out to the world as the Gospel of John portrays the world and to fulfill the mission of the church at large and Belmont's mission.

BUMC'S current staffing includes: Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, Director of Music Ministries, Director of Program Ministries, Business Administrator, Youth Pastor, Director of Children's Ministries, Property Manager, four support positions, a church organist and the custodial staff. The Director of Children's Ministries position is currently not staffed. The Director of Program Ministries will retire at the end of the Conference year in June 2005.

1. What changes do you believe could be made to the current staffing structure that would enable us to reach out to new people, care for and nurture our members, and send one another into service?

2. If the new staff person filling the Director of Children's Ministries position
could focus on one overriding priority that would make the most difference
for children, families and the church, what would that priority be?

What qualities and skills should our new staff person have?

3. If the new staff person in the area of  program ministries could focus on one overriding priority that would make the most difference for Belmont's people and ministries, what would that priority be?

What qualities and skills should our new staff person have?

4. What ministry priorities should the church's staffing model reflect?

5. In general, what would you change in our program ministry structure?
in our staffing structure? in the kinds of skills we have within our staff?
