THE AGING

*Bible Study or Sun Sch class at Leah Rose (or similar location)

*Senior Resource Center w info/support/research for families w/ Srs

*Sr led cooking/canning classes to others in congregation

Senior exercise/fellowship opportunities w more options

Provide VITA - Volunteer in Tax Assistance and/or finan counseling

Collect "Gold for the Giving" - wisdom from the congregation

Senior Computer Lab (w youth as technical assistants)

 

HOMELESS/DISPLACED

*Invite homeless/lonely to join us for WNAB

Expand RITI w more showers/laundry

Food Pantry stocked for homeless/those in need

Feed the hungry with regular soup kitchen/mobile loaves and fishes

Provide job training assistance for homeless/immigrants (w JFON?)

Clothes closet for RITI/homeless/those in need

 

GOLDEN TRIANGLE

*Mission trip to Haywood Lane (weekend and week long)

*Children/youth choir sing at GoldTri service

*UMYF/WNAB presentation on culture(s) repre in Gold Tri

*Gold Tri participate in potluck meal

*Language class for language/customs during SunSch or WNAB

Provide adequate transportation

Have GT/Belmont retreat at Belmont

Tutor GT children at Haywood Lane Elementary

 

RELATIONSHIPS

*Host regular game nights for all ages (focus on intergenerational)

*Share more meals (agape groups, potlucks, progressive dinners)

*Share communion bread with other UMC's (not just world communion

*SunSch mission exchange (3 from a class visit other class)

*Know each other's name and story

*Sit in different locations for service sin church (if comfortable)

 

MISSION

*start/continue Christmas Miracle

*participate in Crop Walk, other social justice/community events

Local mission opportunities monthly for all ages

Hire a mission/outreach staff person

Host Community Mission Oppor/Discipleship Fair

Host after-school camps for at-risk children

Support/house Justice For Our Neighbors

Grow giving to provide 50% for others

 

WNAB

*Sit w different people at dinner to get to know others

*Have CSA farmers as a Community talk open to all or a WNAB nite

Invite homeless/lonely to WNAB; feed physically and spiritually

*Request caterer to serve/include local foods

*Have WNAB potlucks once a quarter

Provide a quiet place for intercessory prayer

CHILDREN/YOUTH

*Have a Mom's Group (either at BUMC or in homes)

ENVIRONMENT

*Provide Sustainable Resource Center for info on local/green options

Use green power at church

Model environ sustain in our building operations

Host community summit on sustainable eating

Organize sustainability groups

Plant/tend a BUMC community garden

 

COMMUNITY

*Have a concert or sing on the front steps of church

*Luke 14:12 event: first event at new center for neighbors

Develop "extended care" for more congregational caring for ea other

Hire a social worker for seniors/outreach/homeless

Expand faith and grief session to 3 x a year

Use signs/banners to be more welcoming on the outside/community

Host Commun Volunteer Fair with booths by non-profits

Provide a Community Refuge 24/7

Partner w Scaritt Bennett to provide housing for disadvantaged

Host community lectures for social justice issues (not just BUMC)

Show movies in the cul-de-sac (off of building wall_

Provide taxi or bus for access to groc in "food deserts"
