Lenten offering As
Christians and Belmonters, there are many opportunities to observe the
Lenten season: by self-deprivation or self-denial, daily prayer, Bible
study, etc. Some of us give up the occasional indulgence such as
chocolate or ice cream. Others choose to offer up a daily prayer. These
activities are important to enhance our own spirituality. However, there
is an additional way we can observe Lent and help others in the process.
One of the many opportunities is provided through a daily Lenten
offering to God as a testament to the many ways He has blessed our
lives. Previously, the Outreach Ministries Team introduced
you to Ishe Anesu, a program administered by the Hilltop United
Methodist Church in Mutare, Zimbabwe. This year’s Lenten offering will
again be designated to provide much needed financial assistance to this
truly worthy program. Ishe Anesu serves underprivileged children in
Mutare by providing school fees, uniforms, and basic medical care. The
primary objective of the program is to care for and nurture these
children in a loving Christian environment until such time as they are
able to graduate from high school or vocational school and obtain a job
for themselves. The program truly serves to help lift up some of the
poorest individuals in our world and help them learn to care for
themselves and become productive members of society. The Outreach team distributed Lenten offering
envelopes on Ash Wednesday and the first Sunday in Lent. Please take
home an envelope as a gentle reminder to be thankful each day for the
blessings we have and please consider giving some of your financial
blessings to those less fortunate than you in Zimbabwe. In Zimbabwe,
even a little can go a long way. Ishe Anesu translates as "God is with
us." Let Belmont respond with "God is with us indeed."
