Lent
: A season of preparing
our hearts for Easter

Belmont offers several options for your Lenten observance. For self-examination and repentance, try a trusted Covenant Discipleship group. The 2007 Lenten Devotional Guide, written by Belmonters may guide your daily prayers again in 2008.

The Good Neighbors ministry invites you to stand in solidarity with hungry people through the Belmont Food Stamp Challenge. In your daily prayers, remember those who are hungry. Consider trying to live on a weekly food budget of $21 per person for a week during Lent. Donate the money you save to a local hunger-fighting organization.  For more information, visit the Food Stamp Challenge blog at: http://bumcfoodstampchallenge.blogspot.com/

The Outreach Ministry Team asks you to deny yourself through a daily monetary offering.  Click here for more information.

To aid you in reading and meditating on scripture, a Bible study on the Holy Spirit, led by Bob Kohler, will meet on Sunday evenings at 5:00pm in room 120.

During Lent, the WNAB Lenten series programs will focus on how we can live out our faith in our local community. The programs will be: Feb. 20 – Food and Faith sponsored by the Food Security Partners of Middle Tennessee; Feb. 27 – Understanding the Connection Between Faith and Poverty; Mar. 5 – Faces of the Homeless in Nashville; and Mar. 12 – The Local Eating Challenge of the 100-240 mile Diet.

During Holy Week, March 16-21, you may meditate on scripture and a display of the "Stations of the Cross" created by Adult Sunday School classes in the sanctuary each afternoon from 12:30-6:00pm. A special Maundy Thursday evening worship service, including footwashing and communion, will take place on Thursday, March 20 at 6:15pm. On Friday, March 21, come to the sanctuary at 12:15pm for the Good Friday observance including posting a cross on the corner of 21st and Acklen Avenues. Through all of these practices, may we prepare our hearts to celebrate the triumph of the Resurrection over the darkness of death at Easter on Sunday, March 23.  See the complete Holy Week schedule at:  http://www.belmontumc.org/holyweek.htm
