Ministry through play

Belmont UMC and Ultimate Goal Ministries offered weekly soccer clinics for children of the Golden Triangle Fellowship. Photos by Lanecia Rouse
In March, four Belmont University students with Heather Harriss, as their Belmont UMC liaison, sponsored the first Day Soccer Clinic for the children of the Golden Triangle Fellowship. The clinic and their work gave birth to a life-giving partnership between our congregation and Ultimate Goal Ministries.
In partnership with John Stayskal, of Ultimate Goal Ministries, Belmont UMC had a weekly soccer offering for the Golden Triangle children and other children in their neighborhood at Turtle Creek Apartments. We learned through this that there were a few children who really love the game and were interested in playing this fall in the league in South Nashville.
With the help of the parents, Ultimate Goal Ministries, the Golden Triangle Ministry Team, and the commitment of others, Jim Fitzpatrick will be coaching the first GTF soccer team of BUMC. This fall twelve children of the GTF will play seven Saturday mornings in the Synergy Soccer League.
We invite and encourage Belmonters to be in prayer for the team and to come to a game or two to cheer on our boys and girls. If you are interested in learning more about Ultimate Goal Ministries go to: ultimategoal.net or contact Lanecia Rouse at
