Ken Edwards

Ken Edwards grew up in Springfield, Tennessee. He is a graduate of Austin Peay State University and Asbury Theological Seminary. Ken has served as a pastor to churches in the Middle Tennessee area for the last 35 plus years, including Connell Memorial United Methodist in Goodlettsville and Grace United Methodist Church in Mt. Juliet.  He has served as the Senior Pastor at Belmont United Methodist since 2007. Ken serves on the Tennessee Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and the Nashville Area United Methodist Foundation Board of Directors. His years of ministry have been characterized by values born out of his deep and abiding belief that God’s love is all-encompassing, unconditional, and transformational.

Ken is married to Kathryn Edwards, who is a psychologist in the Sumner County Schools and in private practice in Hendersonville, TN.  They have three wonderful sons, Lars works as a free lance animator, Gairdt is a chef at the Inn at Colonial Williamsburg, Aren is a senior at Mt. Juliet High School.

Ken enjoys reading, hiking, and gardening.

Pam attended Hillsboro High School in Nashville.  She received a B.A. in Anthropology from Duke University and then a M.S. in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Vanderbilt University.  Later, she received her M. Div. at Vanderbilt and D. Min. in Christian Spirituality at Columbia Theological Seminary.

She worked in special education, corporate marketing, and university administration before entering full time ministry. Pam has served as a United Methodist pastor under appointment at Calvary UMC, The Upper Room, Duke Divinity School, Belle Meade UMC, The Upper Room (again), and now here at Belmont.

She is married to Ray Hawkins.  They have two sons: Phil Hawkins, who is married to Heather in Louisville (with four grandchildren: Tyler, Hayden, Harper, and Emerson); and Erick Hawkins, who lives in Nashville.

Pam enjoys gardening, writing, photography, and drawing.

 

Heather Harriss

Heather was an English major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and received her Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary.

An ordained American Baptist minister, Heather worked as a hospital chaplain at Saint Thomas Hospital for almost ten years.  During this time, she also served as an assistant minister at First Baptist Church Capitol Hill, Nashville and has served as the children’s minister since 2007.

Heather is married to Michael Stephens and they have two children, Daniel and Emma Anne.

She enjoys reading, making cookies, planting things in her yard, (unfortunately, weeding is not an interest or a hobby), and jogging slowly for long periods of time.

   

Chris Allen

Chris earned a B.A. in History, Religious Studies, and American Culture Studies from Washington University in 2007. After hearing a call to ministry during college, he attended Duke Divinity School, where he received an M.Div with a concentration in Christian Education in 2010.

His work experience includes being a counselor at Camp Rockmont, an all-boys Christian summer camp where he specialized in lacrosse and weight training. Camp Rockmont is a place where he first became aware of the gifts God had graciously given to him for youth ministry.  While a student at Duke Divinity School, he had the opportunity to serve two rural congregations as an intern.  After graduating from Duke Divinity, he began serving at Cookeville First UMC as the Coordinator of Children and Youth Discipleship.

Chris is married to Erica Allen, a Turner Scholar at Vanderbilt Divinity School. They have the sweetest dog named Cadbury!

He enjoys watching college football and is an avid SEC fan.  If you see him looking rather sad on a Sunday morning, it may very well be because his beloved Florida Gators lost the day before.  Chris is a history nerd with a special interest in the early Republic and modern American history.  He also enjoys reading and watching movies.  Chris has a new found love of Twitter and invites you to follow him at DChrisAllen.  Running and staying physically fit is a passion of his.  

 

Gayle Sullivan

Gayle Andrews Sullivan earned degrees in organ performance and church music from Birmingham Southern College and Scarritt Graduate School where she studied organ with James Cook and Wilma Jensen and conducting with Hugh Thomas and Sandra Willetts, respectively.  She has held positions in churches in Texas and Louisiana and is currently serving in her 22nd year as Director of Music Ministries and organist at Belmont United Methodist Church in Nashville.  In 2002 Gayle Sullivan was nominated by participants in music ministry and honored with the Award of Distinction by the National Religious Music Week Alliance. She is an active member of the Nashville chapter of the American Guild of organists as well as the Fellowship of United Methodists in Worship Arts.  Gayle has taught on the adjunct faculty of Belmont University and has led seminars at national and local conferences for the Fellowship, American Guild of Organists and the Chorister’s Guild.  

She is married to Steve Sullivan.

Gayle enjoys cycling, quilting, and cooking.

   

Amy Cooper

Amy received a B.S. degree from Belmont University.  She majored in Elementary Ed and minored in Music Ed.

She has served as a community volunteer in many capacities: 15 years on the Friends of Children's Hospital board (president and other chair positions), as President of the University School of Nashville Association (Alliance for Families, Faculty and Friends) 2010-2011 and President Elect (2011/2012) for the Middle Tennessee Choristers Guild.

Amy is married to Dr. Bill Cooper, pediatrician at Vanderbilt and has two children, William, age 17 and Elizabeth Anne, age 13.  Both attend school at USN.

She enjoys singing, cooking, quilting, sewing, gardening, and dining with friends.

 

Robbie Jones

She worked for the General Board of Discipleship's Evangelism and Stewardship areas and for Vanderbilt University's Concert Choir.

Robbie is married to Harold G. Jones and they have two daughters, Angela and Pattie.

Robert has a B.S. from the University of Evansville and a Master of Divinity Degree from Emory University. Robert is an ordained United Methodist elder from the Indiana Conference, who over the last few years sensed a shift in calling from pastoral ministry to serving the church through his love of numbers and accounting. He recently completed a Masters Degree in Accounting from Belmont University. Robert is married to Reverend Meg Lassiat, who is on staff at the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry for the United Methodist Church.

He enjoys reading, sports, music, visiting the Smoky Mountains and Orange Beach, and walking (or running!) with his miniature pinscher.

 

Susan Groseclose

Susan is an ordained deacon in the United Methodist Church, leading persons, from cradle to grave, to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ and to be in service and ministry with others. She is experienced in designing, planning, and organizing worship services; inviting ministries with visitors and new members; and assimilating persons into the life of the congregation.    

Susan, a lifelong United Methodist, grew-up in a parsonage family in East Tennessee. She earned a B.S. in Special Education and Elementary Education from East Tennessee State University. Through her love and experiences with her Down Syndrome brother, she felt a call into ministry and earned a M.A. in Christian Education from Scarritt Graduate School. She has served at Trinity UMC and Vestavia Hills UMC in Birmingham; Calvary UMC in Nashville; and Lewisburg First UMC. She also served on the Tennessee Conference Connectional Ministries staff.

Susan recently married Dennis Reid, an electrician who works at Home Depot. He has four children – Nick, who just graduated from Lackland AFB basic training;  Shay a, high school senior; Shannon, a high school sophomore; and Sawyer, a fourth grader in Lewis County Schools.

Susan enjoys theater, creative writing, gardening, and entertaining family and friends.

   

Arnell Willis

Arnell attended Western Kentucky University.

Before coming to work at Belmont in 1977, she worked for Waste Water Engineers.

Arnell has a niece, nephew, two great nephews and lots of great friends.

She enjoys walking, swimming, gardening, and cooking.

Angie attended David Lipscomb University where she studied social work and art. 

Before coming to Belmont UMC in 2000, Angie worked for a local HR consulting firm. Prior to that, she worked for the Tennessee Department of Correction for many years, where she started out as a Correctional Officer and later became the accreditation manager for three Nashville prisons.

Angie's family includes a brother, sister, two nephews, four nieces, and two tuxedo cats.

She enjoys hiking, photography, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Anne attended David Lipscomb High School and graduated from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN.

Her past work experience includes seasonal odd jobs including gift-wrapping at Grace’s, working in the concession stand at Greer Stadium during the summer, pharmacy technician at General Hospital, phone center at Bass, Berry, & Sims Law Firm, and Domestic Engineer.  Anne been employed with Belmont UMC since 1995.

Anne is married to Rick and they have six children - daughter, Maggie, son, John and four of the furry, four-legged kind.

She has been singing in church choirs since she was a child and enjoys dancing, exercising, shopping, and chocolate.

 

Adam Kelchner

Adam received his Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, from Randolph-Macon College where he majored in Religious Studies and minored in Western Philosophy, Musicology, and Ethics.  He is currently working on his Master of Divinity at Vanderbilt.

He served as an intern at Belmont United Methodist Church from 2009-2011.  Prior to that, he worked for the Virginia Annual Conference in Youth, Young Adult, and Lay Leadership Ministries.

Adam's family includes his parents, Earle and Jo Anne, who live in central Virginia, along with his sister, Heather. Peanut, the family dog, also lives with his sister.   

He enjoys reading Russian literature, cycling, watching international soccer matches, cooking, listening to vinyl records, and traveling. When the weather is favorable, he also enjoys snowboarding, kayaking, boating, and riding ATV's.

   

Jean Voorhees

Jean received a B.S. in Psychology at Vanderbilt University and her M.Ed. at Peabody College of Vanderbilt.

From 1984-1987 Jean worked as a support teacher at Woodmont Christian Preschool.  Then, from1987-1991, she was the Assistant Director at the same place.

Jean has three children: Garrett, Catherine, and Victoria

She enjoys travel and photography.
